surely if it’s been rewilded then it shouldn’t be mown ?

( not having a go at you Sid... just a little rant)
I detest incorrect in-vogue words being used liberally such as calling themselves Vegan but wearing a leather belt or having a car with leather seats or eating the occasional chicken nugget
Or Rewilding.....
surely the definition of rewild it to Re-Wild ie to let it all go wild

no human interference.... that means no public access, no topping, no hedge trimming etc

if there is human interference then it becomes managed landscape

grrrrrrrrrr
They are trying to make wildflower meadows.
To be grazed by ponies and native cattle.
Are also Buddhist I believe so every life is sacred.

It is all bullsh!t.

Rewilding means doing absolutely nothing which could have any result depending on the circumstances. It's hard to get kudos and money for doing nothing but at least doesn't use carbon so any capture is a bonus.

Creating specific habitats requires much more skill and careful management. It might not be beneficial in terms of carbon but be very helpful to particular species.

'Traditional' farming often has elements of both of the above while being self-financing through ethical food production.

More intensive farming produces vast quantities of food which makes the above possible.

Rewilding is a con by people who want money to live in a park or [beaver] sanctuary. It has little or no wider benefit than their own personal amusement.

I am thinking along the line for years that re-wilding parts of farms that are difficult to manage, poor soils, wet etc is the proper way to do it. I have mentioned before, a piece of land local to here and farmed with poor arable crops until about 1978, is totally scrubbed up woodland. It has been so for the last 20 years or so. The only clear places on the land are managed. The salient point is the species are the native ones that thrive on that ground, nothing imported.
I have a corner of a small paddock that was wet and have let that scrub. Takes no time at all, except for the neighbour who decided to prune without permission. Have the native flora and I would guess the native fauna will follow. Clearly in small area it will only support smaller animals unless there are links to other similar areas. Doing nothing as an alternative needs funding if that is the way things are heading.

I've got about 25 acres of woodland and IMO it adds very little to the fauna and flora of the farm beyond being a refuge for deer and wild boar. The 5 to 10 m of the woodland edge is were all the diversity and activity is, beyond that very little happens. And from this, I would also say our scrub tree/hedge lines with field margins again support masses of wildlife compared to the woodland.

Diversity is the key.
The problem with involvement from any agency is that they promote single visions.
Planting trees is great but blanket planting of trees is the same as blanket planting of anything.
