RFID in Farming

Hi All,
We are a small startup company from Krakow specialized in RFID systems. After numerous researches, we noticed a lot of interest in solutions from the RFID in the mobile sector. Together with some Polish companies we built a RFID based system for managing products on warehouses and goods. We are using cloud and mobile solutions what makes implementation quite cheap, easy to ue and flexible comparing to the existing solutions. We are planning to launch our product at the end of this year but before we will do this we would like to implement most important requirements from potential clients. We are not using RFID readers but instead of it we have been focused on mobile phones with NFC technology.

Have you ever thought about RFID in farming ? Would you be interested with such a solution ? What is your opinion about it ?

Best Regards,
Przemo from Gware

Can you do us a low cost RFID reader that can connect to a smart phone so we can read sheep EID tags, record batches of tag numbers and also allow records to be stored for individual animals and do it for a lot less than the expensive readers currently on the market....

Hi Farmmerm,
If your mobile phone has NFC then you already have a reader and you do not need to pay for it. From our site we will provide system which is storing data in a cloud, RFID tags which are customized to your needs and cloud which will store your data. The cheapest mobile phones with NFC are costing less than 100$. If your phone is not supporting NFC you can simply buy it . Costs of our system depends on volume, but more or less, for few instances of application you will pay less than several dozen dollars per month and this price includes support, implementation, free updates and cloud service.

If you are interested I can show you a demo of our product and we can speak about details.

If it was so simple.... as I understand it NFC doesn't work with the FDX-B or HDX livestock tags, different frequency, different protocol...

Unfortunately it is a little bit different technology. FDX-B or HDX are low frequency tags~135khz , NFC is operating in HF range 13,56 Mhz. Anyway it is just a small sticker it should be quite easy to mount ot on earring of animal. But I understand that you are probably restricted by some standards or market habits :( Anyway if you will see some opportunity for cooperation we can speak whenever you want :) . We are also projecting electronics but currently our resources are focused on this project so maybe in the future we could also speak about doing dedicated readers but to do this volumin would need to be rather big.

Hi All,
Farmerm feedback was very helpful but I would like to gather more information about yours problems and possible solutions on RFID field. Is there someone else who would like to share with me ? Product selection, inventory, animal marking any feedback will be welcome :)

Most of us farmers don't have big inventories and the scale and complexity of an amazon warehouse, though that is not to say there are no opportunities for this technology,

We are still quite small what means that we will be very flexible in delivery, we can quite easy modify software and adjust it to the requirements of potential clients. The thing is that we are still searching niche and farming especially farming in west countries seems to be the right direction. We only need to find together right solutions for existing real problems :)
