Those who think they could "just about" survive without subsidies... Could you still "just survive" if glyphosate is banned?

I seriously hope it isn't but the media rule the world these days and momentum is building.
If yields drop and costs go up without glyphosate it will be very difficult.

Yields will fall and bgrass infested land will no longer be cropped= shortage= high prices

According to my late grandfather: most of the requisitioned farms were run just as badly, and some worse by the War ag.
It was mostly poor land without the potential to perform well, and the War ag's did not have the experience to make the most of what they'd seized.
My friend Anton told me about the clever ones who thought Dartmoor should be ploughed and tried against the better advice of those that had farmed there for generations

Yes they did my late grandfather drove a crawler for the war Ag ploughing whatever they could to increase food production during and after the war.
My great uncle moved to kenya after the war . His scottish farm was compulsory purchased for council housing and against all advice grew wheat twice a year and made a fortune.

I don't farm. (Have worked on a couple in past)
I don't really understand how subs are awarded or who does or doesn't get them "but" & this is where I get shot to peaces.
Why should farmers get paid subs when others don't?
I run a small fencing & landscape business & I don't get anything unless I earn it. Government "should" make laws to ensure all buyers ie tesco etc pay a reasonable price for everything. Dairy boys getting less than cost of production is crazy.
If a customer of mine buying a product off me was to pay less than production cost I wouldn't be in business, it's wrong to be paid less. This is what needs addressing over should subs stay or go.
Get rid of ALL subs make the big buyers pay the producers enough that they make a profit. Nice in principle but every business should make a profit end of.
No profit no business. Easier to say than make happen I know.

What about farmers that are getting grants to pay for fencing and employ you to do work. Are you not in a way receiving subsidies?

I agree get rid of them all, there are plenty living off the tit of the subsidies all the way down the chain.

I don't think they ever will though as they like to have control of us and the threat of taking money away from us gives them that control.

.

All the people 'down the chain' are making a living from, and paying tax on, what they receive from that chain. The vast majority of sub money, particularly in the more marginal areas with smaller farms, is spent locally, whether it be paying the fencing contractor, the Ag fitter, the feed merchant..... Those subs are supporting a lot of families as the money passes down the chain, with a chunk of it going on various taxes at each link.

A lot of the grazier farmers on here that claim to not have subs, benefit from cheap ground where the landowner is claiming BPS and/or enviro payments of some kind.
