My concern is, i wanted to place the order by the end of this week, lead time etc.
I could ring again, then wait to see if he rings me back or not, if he don,t,another day gone then were into next week, there is probably not much in the price anyway, so best to go with a firm that has given me a price and completion date. Just nice to have 2 or 3 prices on the table.
I'd be ringing him again and either making sure I spoke to him or giving them a deadline of dinner time

I would not give up on someone just because they have not called back on a single occasion. When people are involved there are infinite genuine reasons why a message could not have reached the right person. I would call again specifying that it is a urgent matter, then if you hear nothing you can safely conclude they are either not keen or too disorganized to be a reliable business partner.

As a nervous young farmer I was terrified of not calling any of my clients back within about an hour of missing them. Turns out I've learned over the years that hardly anyone in business actually does what they say they will do anyway. UK business is starting to feel remarkably Mediterranean. No wonder productivity is struggling!

If you’d spoken to the chap and he’s not rung you back then he doesn’t deserve the business but there could be a good chance the message hasn’t actually been passed on or the scrap of paper with your number on is lost on his desk
Or he laid in hospital with his guts out .
ring the service manager , you may think why , had issue similar month or so back . Get on well with said service manager , he soon tuned up person in question
Give them one more phone call explaining again what you want ,if no joy by next Tuesday f**k Em

I remember getting a bollocking from a client for running 15 minutes late. Now I wonder how he coped with the rest of the world

my experiences are its rare to get good service ? the more you spend the worst it seems to be ? buy a item from a supermarket have a problem, sorry we will change that, no problem ? phone up about a property? a case in point we sold a small lump of land, first agent we approached to market it got all stuffy when they diddnt want to market it at our price , other one has now sold it ? Toyota , well product is good but the salesmenship ?
Funny you should mention it, spoke to local Toyota dealer the other day wanting some information, salesman took my email and said he’d forward what I wanted.......nothing. They spend a fortune on advertising and you tube videos then don’t respond to a genuine enquiry. Past the stage of giving a s**t tbh plenty more that will take my money.

A) perhaps the lady on the phone struggled to understand your broad accent with phone number. Did you give it to her an she read it back to you?
B) Did you say its Dave, can you ask ***** to call me back? All the salesmen are saying which Dave?
C) note was lost. This is poor organisation.
D) Salesman has health issues, again poor as someone else could call you.
E) they just dont want your business.

Please report back after you try again!

Maybe the person who took the call is a newbie and didn’t realise you are already an established customer. I’ve actually heard people say ‘there is someone on the phone wanting to know about xyz”, instead of saying “can you ring back Mr icanshootwell as he’s interested in purchasing a trailer.
Don’t mean to shoot the messenger, but regularly people take down the wrong name ( that’s if they even asked for it ) and get the number down wrong.
I’d give them the benefit of the doubt, and maybe even pop in to their premises, or phone again.
These local family, and often helpful, firms are sadly disappearing quickly.

Worth another phone call. Most agri engineering firms are far better at fabricating than office work.
Or better still if their not too far away, call in. You can oft get a price there and then and sometimes see an option thats a good idea that you hadn't even thought about.

If she couldn’t understand your accent she should have asked you to repeat it or at least pass on the phone number, but I would call back once more and if that failed they would go on my s**t list and move on to another company. Also if a company doesn’t want your business fair enough, but at least have the balls to say so to the customer rather than the modern way of just ignoring them, making them hang on unnecessarily. When this good time passes.....and it will....farmers will remember those that tried and those that didnt.

I'm not a salesman man but there are particular times of the year the phone doesn't stop. There have been a couple of days I answered all the calls I could and still missed 37 and 29 thats a record for me. My friend is a manager for a big company he has between 100-150 calls to his mobile daily, another guy is a machinery salesman its a nightmare trying to have a conversation with him as his phone is literally ringing every 30seconds.

That's the reality in many industries. I don't use the phone much, but I have between 2 and 6-7 meetings a day (between 0.5 and 2 hours each, often with MoMs to write) and tens of email. And on top of that I am expected to actually work!

Not always ! Local ag merchant has a fleet of vans delivering certain areas on certain days. The old fella on our patch was brilliant, you could ring him and the next day he was in the area, you would get your delivery, he had a fantastic memory, could even be chatting to him at the mart and oh can you get so and so, and you would get it.
He retires and his replacement starts (replacement has very big boots to fill so given some slack) you would phone him the day before, but stuff wouldn't turn up for a few weeks or at all. When quizzed he said oh i forgot, not sorry i forgot, just, i forgot !
So started texting my orders, thinking he would look on his phone first thing on delivery day, ah yes I need that that and that, but no still can't get stuff delivered on time or not at all. Some times having to make the 40 mile round trip to fetch stuff he has forgot as i had run out.
Played merry hell with them at the merchant, and they laughed, oh well that's what he is like !
I told them to stuff their products and i was going to the local coop for my supplies and left. (unfortunately local coop dont do dairy chemicals and they knew it) anyway had a text a few weeks later from the delivery guy 'did you get your supplies from the coop or what'. He was so lucky he wasn't saying that to my face as i would have strangled the fxxxxr there and then 🤬🤬🤬
Now use a local guy for my dairy stuff, brilliant service, treats all his customers the same whether large or small.

I went to buy a new car once and the only staff member said they were all at Xmas lunch but the salesman would call me.
Got a phone call by which time I had bought a car and let's just say it was nearer their next Xmas dinner. Goodness knows where the message had been until July.
