If im honest i wasn't aware u COULD treat it @bovine. Is it harmful to him? Il not be touching him as im aware its contagious.

There's a vaccine (Ringvac) that can be use to prevent and speed up the recovery in affected animals.

A product called Imaverol can be applied to lesions and kill the fungus.

Should used licensed medicines first, before painting animals with home-made concoctions.

May reduce growth rate, but not especially. Have seen mastitis after udder lesions in milking cows. Badly affected (housed) animals can look poor for some time

Well i never knew any of that. Dad had a good few with it over the years and didnt treat or vaccine them. Il look into the vaccine and the product you mention. Dont really want all 7 of them having it (one had it in April).

Feed them well. Keep them going and they'll grow through it. It's unsightly, but if you keep them going it won't drag them down.

Im just surprised flossie he's got it at all. This group has been solely outside since 10th May. I always thought ringworm an inside housing issue [emoji53]

I have used Ringvac to treat ringworm last year after it proved slow to die off at grass and I was worried they would come back into the winter housing with it. It's very expensive as you need a decent volume to treat - administered by weight. The same product is used as a vaccine, which administered at birth for a few years to break the cycle on a farm is very cheap insurance.

My vaccinated calves had very minor symptoms this year but their immune system reacted well and it soon disappeared.

I will continue to vaccinate calves born inside this winter.
Then I will try it a year without and probably kick myself.

Yeah he's a 500kg stot so his weight is an issue for the vaccine.

Im worried about bringing it into the shed. They'll be coming inside in 5 weeks or so. Just a nuisance. As the incubation is several weeks i assume they'll all go down with it.
Put some canestan cream on it.
