Discussion in 'Manflu Corner' started by hendrebc, Jan 13, 2018.

  1. Had ringworm off and on since 2010. Goes away for a while then comes back with a vengence when im stressed or working too hard for a long time doctors said its probably in my blood and ill struggle to ever get rid of it. Tablets and LOTS of cream work for a while but always comes back. My head and legs are itching like hell now really getting on my nerves anyone else had this? Know of any proper cures? Tried everything but nothing works for any legth of time :(

I don't know exactly but mum got something, can't remember exactly, but same/ very similar mite to sheep scab, after many months of no progress with doctor a relative who is a vet said ivomec, but you have to take it every day, unless you fancy injecting yourself, as taken oarally it doesn't stay long enough in the body

  5. Ive got some lamb clear drench might be worth a try. I know ivermectin is very safe drug for people they use it for worming kids in 3rd world countries and ice had more than my share of cattle pour on on me with no ill affects. Might clear up any worms i might have too ;):p

Are you sure it’s not psoriasis?

  10. No not now but the doctor was sure it was ringworm when i went last and the creams and tablets worked when i had them. Id helped a friend tb test some stirks that had terrible ringworm a couple of weeks before i first got it in 2010 the longest ive been without it before it comes back is about 2 minths since then. Usually inly a little bit but does flare up badly occaisionally.

I only ask because anyone I know and myself that has had ringworm has managed to get rid of it using canestan cream (a treatment for thrush primarily aimed at women). One of the worst things you can use use one of these creams that is laced with steroids (canestan HC and the like) as it gives the ringworm some attitude and can even lead to a misdiagnosis as it will appear differently on the skin. Never heard of it being in the blood but perhaps it was just a way of saying you have a tendency to catch it for some reason.

First thing I would do is ask the doc to take a skin scrape and get a firm diagnosis, I’ll be willing to bet you’ve got psoriasis in reality. If ringworm I would treat with canestan cream twice a day or whatever they recommend and take a good multivitamin as well. You’ll be on pills if it’s in the scalp.

  12. I cant remwmber exactly what was in the cream and things now but i think it was anti fungal ill have to check. Ill dedifetly go back when it flares up again starting to get REALLY fed up of it now be about 8 years now :(

That’s a long time for something like ringworm to be p1ssing you off. Definitely get a scrape done next time it flares up before you treat it.

Is there any sort of light/lamp that might help? Old fashioned treatment used to be gentian violet but I think that's probably been banned. Tea tree oil is a good antifungal treatment too.

  17. Sounds like psoriasis to me as well. Try bathing in shampoo that contains tar oils. My father uses it, stinks to high heaven but works.

And get someplace warm and sunny on holiday, and swim in the sea. Or go to a tanning salon, seriously, light helps it no end.

  18. Could well be psoriasis looks like i need another trip to the doctor :(
Every time i go and tell them ice got a rash they just assume its the same thing after a quick look at my notes and give me the same stuff that helps for a bit but not for long. Pretty sure it was ringworm the first time though because both the orhers who were helping got it too.

Could you ask for a referral to dermatologist for proper diagnosis?

Used the purple tack on my sisters ring worm years ago. Never to be repeated as it stings like hell apparently.
