Going to be doing the calves with intranasal for the first time, picked it up from vets and they’ve sent a load of syringes with it, is it as simple as get a dose and fire it up the calves nose? Or do you need one of atomiser ends on the syringe really? Cheers

We did it with the plastic applicator for years. We now use the atomiser. Not sure it makes a difference. Job worth doing, worth doing properly I suppose.

Been using it for 5 or 6 years.
Only ever used syringes and the plastic applicators it sounds like your vet has given you.
Never had any issues doing it that way.

Might sound daft but does it not just run back out of their nose?
Never found that to be an issue.
We only use it on the little autumn born calves and do it at same time as we have them in the dehorning crate so have them well held. Just make sure to hold their heads up as you squirt it up the nose.

Headscoop with a top bar and a squeeze crush almost makes it a pleasurable job.
we use the plastic nozzles that come with it, seem to work well.
If you can, get syringes where the needle is designed to screw on, and screw the nozzle on tight, its not nice if it gets left up the nose.

If the worst does happen, stick your finger up there and tickle it to make it snort it out.

I always found if you can wait for the wee devils to bellow, the liquid goes right up as they must be inhaling . My bro has one of those atomiser things, and it does look like the dogs danglies .

Must admit the automatic applicator is easier.its fans it rather than a jet.whether its any better than the syringe unsure.far better when your doing big batches not having to refill very often.

just buy a 2ml syringe shove a plastic applicator on the end and fire it up a nostril. the 2ml syringe gives you a nice long plunger to shoot the vacc right in there. you dont need to worry about head scoops or inhaling, just fire it up there, easiest job in the world

I stick the plastic needle thing on here, set it to 1ml and fire it up each nostril

Are you doing little ones? We’re doing 9mth olds pre weaning and certainly wouldn’t want to do it without a scoop

We used to do the dairy heifers for IBR intranasally, often at the same time as bolusing for turnout. I always found it easier to leave the head scoop out of the way and have them under one arm and the bolusing gun/intranasal applicator in the other hand.

I admit that I was younger then though.

Try doing it with 12-18 month old stores. You don't hold there head in one place easily.

Squeeze crush and scoop has made it easier but some are still a pain to do.
