If there were, they wouldn't have been spawning there - salmonids rely on riffle and pool parts of rivers which are not to be found in straightened, dredged riverbeds.
This beck is part of the Eden system, the Eden isn’t short of spawning areas, it’s short of Salmon/Sea Trout.
is there even a fish pass into Haweswater, I bet theses salmonids are Brown Trout running out of the reservoir.

The judge is quoted as saying"It seems to me that the praise of
Mŕ Price's remodelling of the river by some local residents arises
out of total ignorance of the true impact of his actions".

What a strange thing to label the people who might have previously been flooded with.
Perhaps somebody should flood the judge’s house and see if he still thinks the same way!

And those of some of the appalling people, especially some woman called Sheila who writes on the HFD Times blog!
She is definitely one who thinks all farmers are the same and is in need of a very strict ‘no food whatsoever’ diet, from now on.

If she ever eats anything I have grown, I hope she chokes on it.

The article identifies which conservation group spied on him in 2021
taking photos and a video which esculated things to the present day.
It's surely now time to be less accommodating to these groups and ask
the question 'do you really need or want these people on your farm?'.

Nope- all land owners should adopt a policy of non-cooperation against these wildlife/conservation groups and tell them to mind their own business. Too many curtain twitchers who think they know best.

EDIT

This and other such instances are just bad news for all concerned at the end of the day, it erodes confidence and trust in the landowners and farmers who this land belongs to. No wonder people are hesitant to engage with initiatives like ELMS if the authorities are so keen to get the whip out when it suits them. The whole lot needs to be brought back under ministerial control and oversight.

It strikes me that the judges comments arise out of total ignorance of the true impact of having a house flooded

On the wye and usk foundation page under "who are we" they have a picture of a manitou in the river with mature felled trees on the bank and disturbed soil !

Well said - these groups all want/need farmer involvement but are no friend of the farmer at all and just want to stick the knife in wherever possible.

On a slightly similar note, several times over the years I've had letters through the post about wildlife surveys on the ponds around the farm.

Policy in recent years has become a standard "No, I don't agree to providing access".

I'm 99% sure they are to do with consultants employed to do reports for various planning permissions around as required by the council policy. There's no benefit to me from doing so and potentially a lot to lose also.
