Why would they have to get permission to get the soil samples
I would like to think someone from ea should be able to tell the difference between a solid lump of clay out of the digger bucket to silt

Just flagging this up as I heard it this morning and posted on another thread. Might save someone someone some hassle by being prepared:

Heard the following this morning:

"Project Tara focuses on the dairy sector and anaerobic digestion sites in Herefordshire. The Environment Agency has been awarded funding to undertake an additional 60 inspections. We will target visits based on incidents and priority areas. All permitted anaerobic digestion sites in Herefordshire will receive a visit and in the Lugg catchment dairy farms will be visited. There will also be a study carried out into the production and use of poultry litter in Herefordshire as part of this project.

As part of a new project covering England the Environment Agency has recruited 50 Agriculture Regulatory Inspection Officers. These officers will focus on Natura 2000 Protected Sites, including the Wye catchment in Herefordshire where 4 officers will be based. The officers will undertake catchment-based farm inspections and will focus on agriculture regulation.

This will include SSAFO, NVZs and Farming Rules for Water. Visits for this project will commence in January 2022.

No mention of visiting sewage works

The sewage works are point source pollution. It is wrong. The EA knows where they are. Doing something about it is not helped when the Conservative government three line whips its MPs to vote down legislation to compel action by water companies. And thus sends a political message - to leave alone???? Hey ho.

Pollution from Agriculture is partly point source (where for example effluent is allowed to enter a pipe that goes direct to a watercourse - and rare as few farmers intentionally allow such thing to happen, although accidents do happen but these are rarely repeated.) but 'in the main' pollution from Agriculture is diffuse. And thus is not often easy to see visibly or to conceptualize happening. This is the issue with nutrient enhancement of watercourses and the root of the Farming Rules For Water

From many of the posts on these threads I get the feeling the difference is only partially understood (and thus not accepted). Are we about to reach a crunch point. The activists George Monbiot and Feargal Sharkey have it looks shaken up the establishment. Hey ho.

They must have worked unbelievably hard to do that.

Obviously no one would attempt to do a job like that nowadays but I suspect even with all the modern excavators available today, a job like that couldn’t be completed in 12 months, indeed, just up the road from here they have been over 12 months building a new roundabout adjacent to the existing one and look nowhere near completion, obviously a different and much smaller project but it just goes to show how long jobs seem to take nowadays despite having machinery capable of doing the work of hundreds of me by hand.
Indeed, whenever I pass by the number of men working on machines seems to be dwarfed by the number of men looking on. No doubt such a project needs people to oversee and manage, it just beggars belief at the numbers.
It would take that long just to sort out the paperwork

Dave Throup(the EA guy who helped kick start this trial by social media with a tweet) was waxing lyrical on twitter today about how many thousand homes they are protecting during the current flooding.
Somebody posted the above photo of the lugg this morning, commenting on how well it was coping.
No response funnily enough
[/QUOTE]

See on the BBC Midlands news site: On his way at New Year, Dave Throup aka Mr Flood prevention himself... except for when he is criticising a residents actions, that prevents damage to property and a bridge...

Hopefully his replacement will be a little less hasty to criticise activites when the EA are at fault or to blame!
