They don’t appear to be trying to wiggle at all; they just continue putting off any admission of what has happened and the damage that has been caused. The annoying thing is, if you or I had done anything wrong, the EA and their pals would be down in us like a ton of bricks, but when the EA has commissioned work (with all the hard-hats, clipboards and degrees that that would entail) and make an utter balls-up of it, can we really expect the EA to investigate itself, or even to admit any mistakes? At least some body has put it out there black n white into the mainstream, let's see how they wiggle out of this one ....
This is the most anoying part that they have got the gaul to even attempt to reprimand anyone for anything after the monumental balls up here that could cause the most catastrophic disaster ,The annoying thing is, if you or I had done anything wrong, the EA and their pals would be down in us like a ton of bricks, but when the EA has commissioned work (with all the hard-hats, clipboards and degrees that that would entail) and make an utter balls-up of it, can we really expect the EA to investigate itself, or even to admit any mistakes?
Wonder if the lab will mysteriously loose the samples.Going to be entertaining seeing what absolute bull sh!ť they come up with to fudge them selves out of this one .....
This has got to be the longest soil rest in history to make its way back from the lab ffs ,
You can really be forgiven for losing the plot with these folk if ever they come round telling you your doing something wrong
Yes the IDB took samples at the same time and have had the results for months they did it all properly and are waiting for EA to publish their results first, I suspect the EA are either trying bury this or haven’t come up with an excuse yet.Have the Stop The Floods folk sent some off for analysis? Bit dear to get a decent ag solicitor to supervise some samples going to a lab. What has the idb done?
Probably have results saying that it's clay & are now trying to prove that it's "the wrong sort of clay"6 months on and the EA STILL hasn’t come back and said what it was dredging out of the New Bedford river.
You’d think that if they had any evidence that nothing had gone wrong, they’d be back with denials quick enough.
Shameful behaviour.
As in desperately trying to find any old ‘expert’ that will toe their line that it’s silt, or clay that has been deposited there in the meantime, and that the peat hasn’t come from below the puddled clay; that it’s been magically made in the meantime or that it too has been washed there from elsewhere??Probably have results saying that it's clay & are now trying to prove that it's "the wrong sort of clay"
Depending on the time required for repair, it may be possible to just utilise the Old Bedford by keeping the Earith sluice open and placing coffer dams either side of the length of the New Bedford to be repaired. Provided work is started fairly promptly it needn't be particularly expensive either as the original construction was puddled clay. Of course, given that it would involve the EA you can pretty much guarantee that they'll come up with a ridiculously over bloated scheme...As in desperately trying to find any old ‘expert’ that will toe their line that it’s silt, or clay that has been deposited there in the meantime, and that the peat hasn’t come from below the puddled clay; that it’s been magically made in the meantime or that it too has been washed there from elsewhere??
Absolute disgrace.
I wonder what it will cost to divert the water away from the damaged area of river (dig a channel over to the parallel river??) and repair the damage. I suppose the skills required died out hundreds of years ago so any solution would be a MAJOR civil engineering task requiring steel, concrete and hundreds of millions. Still, I bet it will be spun that the EA are protecting the area for future generations (rather than being wonton vandals). I guess the tax-payer will be stumping up again.
Bank holiday weekendIt will be all "because of the cost of this, we can't afford to do any routine maintenance anywhere else."
Of course, they won't let farmers do it.
We need UK Day Of Action where we all just go out with diggers and clear the bits where idb or our ditches meet EA maintained areas and give them a good digging.
There's a long one coming up, for some reason....Bank holiday weekend
Can we not get the powers that be to prosecute these.......oh. It was them what done it, wasn't it. Sigh.
