Road meets driveway.

Without wanting to 'stir up' the slumbering officials in their council chambers.
What width of road does the council own? Just want to edge our driveway up to the road edge. It's a single track tarmac road with the usual crumbling edges. Don't want a bloke in a white van with an aerosol can turning up one day and saying "Oooh, you can't do that there mate, you need a survey"

As soon as you join onto council highways tarmac you need somebody with different insurance ,,not allowed to chop into their surface without planning as they will insist on using concrete kerbs

The width of a council road will be dependent on the enclosure award unless it has been updated since by purchase.
If you find out the award the point of joining is one half the width of the award from the centre of the highway.
Generally these awards were 8 , 12 or 16 feet
You have absolute right to work on your road up to the awarded highway.
It may be best to discuss it with your local highway as they are thr ones who know these widths and it is in their interest for the join to be good.
Of course it is a different matter if you are creating a new entry, when they have the right to squeeze till the pips squeak

If you do have to go down the formal route and get them
involved, they'll probably insist that they do the job, and charge you to use one of their approved contractors.

All I can say is watch them like a hawk. When they did my entrance, they used sub standard contractors who did less than half a job which in no way would have passed building regs were they needed. It took months to get it sorted. I'm sure it would have taken longer but the surveyor phoned me on his mobile one day and I kept his number - cut out a lot of the on hold and leave a message, or being transferred between departments crap the councils use to waste their time and our money.

It's more a case of doing the said work on a Saturday night or Sunday. Just crack on if there is no kerb!
Must of always been there hidden under the grass(y)

Neighbours were told by the council they had to have6 foot ot concrete between the tarmac road and their stone drive,to stop stone being carried onto the road.Builder laid 6 cubes onto tarmac edge,a very neat job
Fact is their drive falls away from the road, our stone drive falls to the road directly opposite theirs, perhaps council haven't heard about gravity!

We have just concreted our farm drive up to the lane. Couple of days later council walking along marking pot holes with spray paint. Couple of days later filled pot holes and they haven't said a word. Do a good job of it and they can't say a lot.
