Roadside verge use

Am l allowed to dig an alkathene water pipe into a public roadside verge to get water to an off lying field Alternative is to go through 300 meters of pretty dense woodland Quiet road could be completed in a day

Not without the right paperwork from highways, and the digger operator with the right ticket. You could jfdi, but hit something or get reported and it will be the dearest hole you've ever dug.

Do you own the verge ? virtually all roads have a width, anything over this width, the highways have no rights too.
Even if the road covers this verge , then they have no right to the subsoil.
