Robotic Milker Price

If I was going into milk from scratch I'd be looking at a bog standard 16-20 point parlour. Plenty of small ones on done deal, buy 2 and join them up, 70 cows milked in half an hour for a 10th of the money invested. Don't heed the salesmen and whats said at open days. Lots of farms get on really well with bots, others dont. I was on one farm last week who wishes he'd never heard of lely.
You went to north wales?

i havn't, ive been to a Lely open day up at newtownstewart and am going to to to a delaval open day with 8 robots on 11th september also in the newtownstewart direction. it would be a good idea to talk to farmers who have them in already to see what they think. what does he say when your there? are they a good job?
Know both farms you are talking about
We have done what your thinking

im in fermanagh, so the two milk collectors would be dale farm and glanbia, however both of their processing plants are in the republic of ireland so i dont know what the situation will be like with brexit and all
Dale Farm does not have any processing plants in Republic of Ireland, milk from your area would usually be sent to Dale Farm's Dunman factory in Cookstown, but could also go to Glanbia's factory in Virginia Co Cavan as part of an arrangement between the companies. Should Brexit result in problems moving milk across the border Dale Farm milk will be processed in Cookstown.

Rather than costs are people making good money after all this input. Delaval lely etc have all got their profit built into your system before you start. Profit is more important than costs.

These figures sound high but if you’re knocking it out the other end then they are less important.

Anyone willing to offer their opinions on how much they are left at the end of the season? Are you ecstatic , happy , disappointed or gutted?

Robots are going to be AYR so no "season" per se. However output per cow should be higher (will be) than parlour based as should be achieving x3 milkings plus and most robots will feed cake in the parlour
Set against that is higher running costs of esp power & feed (housed/extra cake/silage) and the problems of breakdowns creating massive backlogs

So having been a roboteer & now a rotator, I would sum up:

About the same

(this would be especially true if shoehorning robots in to existing set ups and accepting compromises. Greenfield would be ideal but hugely expensive per cow place if looking to house 24/7)

I’m just asking the roboteers who have invested are they happy with their return? That reply says nothing ?so I have to look at your actions. You bucked them all out . @Bald Rick

Only "bailed" because our cow numbers went beyond the sweet spot as you well know.

Whether to go robots or not would be an individual decision set against a number of criteria but how do you value not actually having to milk at set times or find/manage staff to milk?
If it answers your question, we made a profit most years given a reasonable milk price but robots will be high in/high out and you have to have a good understanding of where your CoP will sit and whether you are happy to milk cows at that CoP

Yea. I know.

On these threads so much about costs and big ones but they obviously can be balanced . Sure there’s other factors but sit down with your accountant or bank manager and on one side you have expenditures and the other sales .

It has to stop there sooner or later cos if it ain’t paying it ain’t lasting.

I thought it a simple question are you happy with your return on investment? Plain and simple? (General not just you )

To help people consider their choices.

Yes iam with a milk price of 27ppl we are seeing a profit of between 3&4 ppl this figure should increase after 2022 as our bots will be paid for on a 7 yr finance agreement. Overall cost of system change circa £400k but it's not always just about the money.

£500 per robot per month with delaval as a ball park, for a 200 cow system with 3 robots that's £360000 over 20 years without inflation, chemicals and breakdowns/parts.

But how long will the bots last before there obsolete or they stop software updates
We here alot about people taking out old models to put in new models, is this factored in to the cost and when would this happen(years)
The swing over I milk in could last til a time that the steelworks rust away
