What's the most time it took people to train a cow that's calved for the first time (don't know the english word)? I have one calved 30 days ago and has just been going on her own for a few days. Do not wish to make that a regular thing.

Have had them up to that length of time, I try to push them pretty hard at the start and have seen me putting a heifer through 4 times a day sometimes. We have given the close up heifers about 3kg of pre claver nuts this year and when calved they seem to visit the robot more often looking for meal. Biggest problem we have at the moment is too many cows on the robot, so not enough free time to allow heifers to visit often enough.

Yeah that might be a good idea, I only put them through 2 times a day. 3 times is do able for me, more than that will ruin my own free time. Only the fifth or so heifer I had to train, the others where going themselves at a week at most.

With the cold in mind we gave the robot a skirt. Little heater and a length of non-flammable pipe beneath the shït catcher, job done. Ice was hanging from the arm so figured it might be a good idea.
Cows not happy with the changes though, had to fetch a good few. They'll get used to it.

We have 2 abac versions of this, alternate every week, linked tanks and run through 1 dryer/filter setup. Slightly noisier but doesn't bother us, change the oil once a year and keep on truckin. The price they are you can chuck one out every couple of years or just buy a new air end at about £300 instead of £3000.
Our 2 renner scroll compressors both gave up at circa 20000 hrs, approx £8k to repair both or £14k to replace. Each renner provided 14cfm, whereas one of the piston units gives us 27cfm, servicing the renners would have cost circa £1800/yr
