Rolling Box Section

Going to redo our handling system this winter, as part of it I'd like some 50x50x3 box rolled into a curve. My normal steel supplier can't do it, nor can the 2 local fabricating firms. Does anyone know of any firms that will do it? What are the eBay rollers like? Need about 16 lengths.

Our local fabricator said he couldn't roll 50 mm box 5mm wall. Our resident welder, fixer man proceeded to make a box roller with a bottle jack, a lorry chassis and a selection of rollers. Happily churned out a pair of arms fir the following harrows on our vaderstad drill, a lick of paint and they looked like the real deal! It can be done

Unfortunately one quarter of the circle needs to be a gate. In fact it needs to be a gate that folds in half as well - so need all the strength I can get!!
You'll probably have to speak to a specialist co then to have the specs & drawings for a steel fabricator to work to. You'll have to pay for this. Alternative is to break it down into small pieces & DIY. It's just a Q of finding the right co to do the right work & that's leg-work...

Sure I saw a formula on here that for the same section width round is actually stronger and cheaper than box, and those ebay benders appear to handle round section better. No experience of them though but had been wondering the same.

True. But i need to roll a curve not bend in lots of points. Also round is a lot harder to attach the stockboard and gate hinges and latches etc etc to than square.

If you ask around enough you should be able to find a set of sheet rollers that would roll a straight gate for you, i.e fabricate a straight run first then roll them. It's how IAE etc do their round feeder and such. Alternatively as you say you will need to roll lengths of box but to the exact same curve, not an easy task as no two box section are exactly the same. Did a lot of pipe bending years ago and no matter how precise you were with settings, measurements etc getting the curves and bends to match all day was a real PITA!!! The seams etc gives each length a slightly different characteristics to the other!!!

Made mine with 7 ft gates , put them on the floor with timber under each end, drove over the whole length with the merlo, gives a perfect curve.
