What was the trade like @Wooly?

Very good for the quality. I will post the report once it has been written.

A few rams were over £2000......... and that was genuine sales and not funny stuff that sometimes happen between breeders of other breeds !!

Good ewe lambs in the £90s, a few at £100 plus.

Some photos on the Romney facebook page.

Thanks @Wooly. Is that the first time they've crossed £2000? Were they performance recorded rams?

First time.........and then 3 came along !

All performance recorded.

A noticeable thing about the sale, was that the Romney sheep with NZ advertised bloodlines appeared to be discounted............A few years ago they would have been sold at a premium.

I think the sheep never lived up to the marketing hype and have left several disappointed.

That's interesting @Wooly, the first ewes we bought 6 years ago were draft Kent romneys, they threw some cracking lambs. Have been using nz romneys from the start and it's been a bit down hill since the first batch of lambs. Came down your way in July for a recorded Kent romney ram so hopefully see a bit of improvement in next years lambs, time will tell. Hopefully get down to the romney sale one day as well.

So who did you purchase the first draft ewes from? We sent several hundred draft ewes to Wales about the same time.

Most of the English breeders of the 'NZ' Romneys all purchased draft ewes from Romney Marsh when they started. They then just marketed them better !!

43 tegs now in norfolk and romnney ram in today, looking good.

Hopefully should do you well. A lot have been going into Norfolk for the last few years.

We bought them off farm in Oxfordshire, there was a kiwi shepard running the place, he'd bought some Kent romneys to start with and was using nz romneys over them.
