Just seen 400 bales posted forsale £15/baleI expect it to be £15 from mowing to stacking including wrap , that's on a 10 round bale crop, not precisely, but can't see it being less, be more on a lighter crop

Have they to be loaded by hand?Just seen 400 bales posted forsale £15/bale
"Could" be last years, horse quality. Stacked on concrete and look good firm 4ft rounds. Looks to be tons of fodder about and we keep catching the heavy rain just at the right timeHave they to be loaded by hand?
Snap, i couldnt keep cows on round bales to much cost .It's a small day doing the pit mate I'm not standing there watching them for 3 weeks Then instead of spending endless days carting and stacking bales Im drenching lambs, moving cattle, spreading muck, ploughing & drilling stubble turnips instead of having to pay contractors to do that work cause I was struggling for time due to LUGGING FECKIN ROUND BALES............ So Im also saving money there as well now I have time to do it all myself . Jesus u reakon Its cheaper to buy a rake, baler & wrapper and crack on yourself with it ....f*ck me mon being a one man band there's jus not enough time in the day..... Or money in the bank....
I love to work hard but you've got to work smart nowa days & putting the pit in was the smartest thing I ever did.

2500-3000 in silage bales.......... F*ck me you poor sod .....!I'd love a pit but sepa would get angry with me.if I did get one ,would have to have a roof over it. So for now I'll just have to keep doing my 2500-3000 bales.
It does take time, contractor does the bailing I do the rest.this year though the fields are at different stages so bailing it will be better than a chopper.
Also all I need to feed bales are a bale spike an a ring feeder.how much is a diet feeder now?
Who was it on here who was trying to tell me that paying contractors to do our pit was dead money and we should buy all the tack to do silage bales........?? I thought I'd heard it all until I read thatView attachment 1042625
90acres in a 1975 built pit, filled and covered in less than a day and a half. How long would it take to make 90ac of bales, even with contractors its a slow job carting them in and stacking. And I wouldn’t get anywhere close to 90ac of bales in that space. I can now crack on with shearing mucking out sheds etc etc. Have to put a value on your own time. Fair enough if I had a football team as a family wanting to help i would consider bales or own little trailed forager but I don’t, lack of staff is a big issue so getting in the contractor guarantees the job is done and they have the expertise and tools to fix stuff quickly if anything breaks down. Only downside is the pit will need replacing soon
Last time i baled i had 2000 , then i built a pit 21 years ago , it covered its own cost in year one and reduced the work to Two days over two weeks faffing about with bloody bales . 21 yesrs ago i worked it out anythjng over 800 was uneconomical.2500-3000 in silage bales.......... F*ck me you poor sod .....!
I honestly think it would be worth the investment boss.... Pull the sheet back 10ft once a week job done, just keep grabbing it, hell that's alot of wrap & net to cut off all bloody winter........
I know, it's sepa thats my main issue.that I an the cost of a shed for it now.2500-3000 in silage bales.......... F*ck me you poor sod .....!

same situation here. far better job with clamp. worst part of the clamp is un sheeting it. used to spend days lugging bales from ground away. now 5 trailers on cart its done and sheeted by bed time.90acres in a 1975 built pit, filled and covered in less than a day and a half.
