Round steel for feed fence

W shaped crash barrier would probably be in the £2/ft region after bolting together. They won't bend them. Have some, will try take a photo tomorrow. Ours go against the uprights and we just made our own U clamps out of round bar to hold them on.
Are they not sharpe on their necks and rub their hair out? Are yours 20ft bays

4" gas pipe was what I used, welded to a flat plate which was bolted to the stanchion face.
Secondhand crane cable twanged up really tight and passed through an eye in or on the stanchions also works well. could thread it through scaffold tube between uprights, to make it a bit more daunting.

Not sharp at all really, but defiantly not if you install them the right way round. I'm just on 15' bays but they won't bend them at 20' as they're shaped to be strong. Mine stand up to getting knocked with the loader and just have marks to show for it. I had to pop out to check something so took these crap pictures. I'll try and remember to take some in the daylight tomorrow for you.

I have seen in a few houses the pipe is 'hinged' to the stantion. So when the cows push the pipe moves forward and up about 6". Real simple design and seems to work really well for Dairy cows where I've seen it done.

We have a fair pile of broken ones, they are hi tensile and work harden and quickly break.
They have their place, just not suitable for a wide span feed fence

We used 2 lengths of 12mm chain link one either side of the pillar. Have turn buckles to tighten every so often if the start to sag. Bits of box section to hold then in place on each pillar. Works really well for cows but not so good for smaller cattle once the dug gets up a bit. 120 foot shed, 20 foot bays.

What did you think to the manitou cherry picker?
the manitou and houlott are the same they are the best on the market 4wd/4ws full rotation and the functions mix very well on the controls they make all the others look rubbish ,we have the houlott 10m scissor it is very good ,600kg heavier than all competitors and you can see where the extra steel is ,you thinking of buying one ?

Yeah but was thinking JLG. Never used a manitou. Had houlette, genie and jlg where I used to work and I preferred the genie for using

 Even drawn an ear tag

Excuse my terrible drawing but does this look about right. Planning on putting 600-700kg beef cows and 12month- fat cattle in it View attachment 432556
looking about right, i would use 150mm thick panels below so you get a flusher face both sides for scraping out you will need the panel firm to drop a 75mmx22m timber in the bed at the ends to form a recess to get them in the 152x152 uc (would use 30kg section) and you don't need the clips on them so nothing sticking out @Unbrako precast made the last ones and i have some more the same on order
