My thoughts are its run like a business too. Which I don't have a problem with.

But don't come asking for handouts from those that attend when its facing financial hardship.

If they want to raise money quickly could they not offer discounted life memberships?

It's like the farmers weekly, they charge all the exhibitors to attend. Then charge people to come in and see what exhibitors are paying to exhibit?

How does lamma manage to host a "free" indoor show.
I go with that. If you want our money, let’s have something in return, and cheaper life membership would be of interest for my kids.

Agriscot is another good example of a well run free to attend show

Found the show a bit boring the last few times I went to be honest. Everything in exactly the same place as the yr before. Can’t go near the animals to show the kids, come home considerably lighter in the pocket with not much to show other indigestion and ketchup down my shirt.
Entry to members area like getting in to North Korea now, so much suspicion about folk going in on the wrong badge. Who cares? badge was paid for or it won’t of been sent out and its not like you get cheaper drink or free pies, you just stand in a slightly different place to non members.

all a bit corporate and bland now. Sad.

If you were from North Korea you'd probably get in for free and wined and dined.

It's the corporate nature that annoys me about them asking for money. I mean if it was lamma and we'd been going for 20 years for free then I would consider a donation.

Funnily enough I haven't been asked for anything!

Yes whats the harm in giving your entry badge to a friend or family member if you are not going to use it...its been payed for...they just want another £29 at the gate!

Isn't it just a bit of a status thing being in the members?! I couldnt care less. Better laughs in the other bars
Yeah it is.

I bought membership years ago, coz I thought it made sense vs buying 3 daily tickets each yr. doubt I’ll get it back, barely go once a yr now.

Members area nothing special at all, sit and watch posh folk get drunk on Pimms or sit in another bar and watch normal folk get drunk on strongbow..

The one thing that pisses off the urban visitors to The Highland Show - apart from extortionate entry and refreshment prices - is the Members' Only Pavilion.

Our local show has no such apartheid. There is a President's Tent, and anyone from Squire to Serf is welcome to wander in for a drink, a sandwich and a sit down.

You realise you dont have to give money? You seem very bitter about it.
Don’t see how this post is bitter, he made a valid point why should the members bailout the management , if the business plan was sound it would be no problem, he is just saying what others are thinking
If I had happened to have been unlucky enough to have borrowed a substantial sum of money to fund a project and Covid then came along I could maybe try crowd funding avenues but asking members to dip in their pockets just as a bail out is poor , at least offer something back and I don’t mean a name on a seat, maybe discounted membership for a sibling in the future when things are financially stable in the Society or make it repayable to the member (probably would never be claimed back ) , just try a little harder than sending round the begging bowl

Instead of a badge, a tweed suit or pink chords might be more apt for entry to the members. Keep the riff raff out.
I had a few beers in the members last year with a craibstone class mate of mine who happens to be a neighbour of yours @Chae1. He was dressed in the finest Mearns pink checked shirt, chinos and tweed jacket, and me in my Perthshire teuchter jeans blue checked shirt and shearing hoodie!! 😂😂😂😍

I almost agree with the recruitment side of things if that is the cost, but comparing equivalent jobs that would be around the benchmark money for a CEO of a large entertainment company. As I said the RHS is only part of the jigsaw things happening all the time. Commercial company commercial renumeration.

No issue with paying good money for good staff but for that sort of money you’d hope for a slightly more imaginative approach than sending out begging letters to keep them afloat.

Only one I can think of is Mr Milne? Wife must have bought the outfit!

Don't think he wears tweed often. Normally see him in his NH boilersuit.

Finally (at he age of 40ish) went to the show last year. I was very underwhelmed if I'm honest and can't see us hurrying back. Even the Buffalo burgers from This Farming Life were in a bar area with a long queue!
