RTK advice

My new Fastrac came with RTK guidance. It’s all there ready to go.

I had intended to just use Centrepoint RTX, but seeing as I’ve got a system capable of RTK, it almost seems criminal to waste it.

That said, without a base station nearby m my options appear to be - Sim RTK, mobile station, and fixed station with increasing cost of installation.

Land is spread over 7 miles. What would you do?

We host a radio mast station, had a few tractors on radio RTK, all fine but 7 miles would be a problem here, last tractor, under the advice of the people that run our station, was on NTrip sim RTK, been faultless, next tractor coming is now also coming on the same. Get a quote but I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how close the cost is to centrepoint, just double check the fastrac is unlocked, that’s the expensive bit of RTK.

I have both radio and NTRIP (cellular modem with a SIM card) on our tractor. I pay 10 € per year for the SIM. Establishing the free radio connectivity was much more expensive.

You should have RTK corrections at a lower price than CenterPoint. If not, consider a DIY base. Some 200 € for an Ardusimple F9P receiver and a free NTRIP caster on an old laptop (many other options exist). No annual costs if the base can use your home internet.

Got SIM RTK and my correction signal comes from Knockdown which is 16miles away and is fine. I was in the same boat, 2nd hand 750 that had been unlocked to RTK. Am sure T H Whites up at Marlborough would sort you out or certainly give you options

Thanks for the replies. It’s definitely unlocked to RTK, going through the unlocks it’s got a large tick next to it. What would the sim modem look like? There’s a large black box protruding from the rear of the 1000 screen, is that it?
Would like to explore sim RTK, do you ever find it unreliable like mobile phones can be?

Hi @Romeogolf,
The 'large black box' attached, and protruding from the rear of the screen is indeed where the RTK Radio is normally housed.
However it may or may not have one installed, there will usually be a sticker if there is one present.
To test, you could attempt to setup a correction on Centerpoint RTK, it will say 'no radio detected' if there is a fault or no radio present.
As previously stated, Trimble Modems are 'normally' connected via the USB, so we can probably assume there isn't one present.
We can discuss where else to look later.

In Wiltshire, you would be just outside our RTK Radio Network.
We have national coverage for England Scotland and Wales for Sim delivered RTK, so we could get you online that way instead.
We have an affordable, custom modem setup available for your screen - if you are unable to find a good used Trimble alternative.

Hi, do they use and supply roaming sims that utilise two/three operators? Biggest issue In uk is cellular coverage. I believe the new sims that can roam various networks are better? Perhaps you can explain more?
