This is the top idlers on our Protech, the rubber/plastic roller have sealed bearing in them that run on the shaft, they have an external seal and washer/plate, we have had 2 bearings fail and the rest are all rumbling, the washers on the roller have eaten into the shafts as the bearings fall, now when you grease these pins you are only firing grease around the sealed bearing and behind the external seal and washer
We usually grease everything every time we fill with diesel so about every 10 working hours, my question is are we better off not greasing these idlers? They run in muck and water constantly and I think it’s just creating a grinding paste

Most excavators running on rubber tracks have non greasable sealed idler wheels, they seem to do a lot of work without any trouble, could you retrofit a sealed bearing idler wheel ?

The bearing is a sealed unit, but then the sealed bearing is covered by another seal and washer thats held in with a circlip, when you grease it it’s only greasing the seal and washer that run on the shaft, I think greasing it has created a grinding paste therefore damaging the shaft and letting more crap in and getting past the bearing seal

I never asked just ordered the parts, I didn’t know how bad it was until we had stripped them all.
I may try not greasing them, see how long they last, these have done 1200 hours and it’s only 2 which are really bad that get the most built up of mud on them, the other 6 are just starting to rumble
