Runabout Vehicles

Evening all,
What would you say is a good vehicle to have as a runabout vehicle going around 20 miles away from home max?
Ford Ranger
Mitsubishi Shogun and L200
Isuzu Rodeo
Toyota Hilux
Nissan Navara
What mileage is too high?

Dad drove a Renault Extra van (Renault 5 with an oversize biscuit tin on the back) when I was a kid. Was just the job for running around on local trips.

It did fine for longer trips as well. Only really struggled with half a tonne of bricks in the back.

Once dad was done with it, brother and I both took our turns with it as a first car.

If you're just tootling around, don't want to tow anything, and don't go into very wet fields or down mega bumpy tracks, a car derived van (or something car-sized) is ideal.

Do you need 4wd, I've a ten year old fiesta van as a runabout. Just past 100k miles, mot a couple weeks ago, didn't need a lot done to it.
I have a Vauxhall Cavalier for the flat fields, brilliant car, it has just done over 160K. It just went through the MOT last month. I need a 4WD for the moorland ground where there are several stones and the Cavalier would bottom out. I have used a Mitsubishi Shogun for around 15 years, however the selector has gone. I don't know whether or not to get another .

Our old fiat punto, runs on the sniff of an oily rag, it goes well off-road if you can drive, if not you can soon push it out with your shoulder under the door frame and your left foot on the throttle, worth nowt but keeps passing mot.
I did however smash the sump on it last year while I was without a pickup

We have a Ford Fusion as a farm run around, it’s basically a fiesta on steroids which means you get a bit more ground clearance, bigger boot and more head room. Much cheaper on fuel than the pickup for running about in.
