Running 8 wheeler tippers

Thanks for the replies which I agree with. He says will retire next year. I think the other half of the company's drivers who don't sleep out day boys , get hourly pay. Dad asked for hourly pay and boss said wasn't against it, but it's not happened. I think it makes for less safe practice , if unsure of pay, there's a risk of pushing for.extra loads etc.

its actually illegal to pay drivers by the load as it encourages rule breaking and short cuts

Talking to a local chap yesterday at a barbecue and he reckons HS2 promised plenty of work but in reality have given contracts to the big haulage contractors from away. He has 3 tippers and isn’t confident he will still be going in a few years. 🤷

seen a advert for skip and hook lift drivers £14.75 hr and curtain siders were £15.75 im afraid your fathers age would be against him now , might be better doing some agency work and cutting back a bit if its affecting his home life

Nonsense, last summer there was a guy hauling grain well into his 70's and my neighbour still drives trucks. If he can pass the medical to drive he should be driving if that is what he enjoys. At least older blokes will turn up on time and know their onions.

Tell him to ring around and he will find another employer no sweat.

I think the night out allowance has stayed at £17 for at least 10 years. Also pressure hose at the yard to try clean out the various stubborn stuck remains of loads is part broken so drivers get sprayed too. Dangerous wet ground. If course he reports the repairs needed but not given priority.

Watching someone on the YouTubes the other week and the fella was going on a rant because he'd found out Stobarts were still paying some of their full timers a tenner an hour.

when last did nights out which was 5 years ago the rate was £35, cant fathom why anyone would even consider it for £17.

Thanks I know. He's never been good asserting himself around money. Think our ancestors were philanthropists, set up charities. But his mum got made to live in Irish Mother and Baby home, give up baby, befire training and working as nhs nurse. Think many women struggled to be loving to their kids after the trauma done at those punishing workhouses. Is passed down by intergenerational hidden trauma. Like poem They "m"uck you up your mum and dad, they may not mean to but they do....by Philip Larkin, of Liverpool.

Mate Takes £110 home a day on a 8 Wheeler. Freshish FM. Mostly Agg and the odd night out at £25

IF he wants a Saturday Morning it's £100 home but they like him to be loaded Friday PM.

I'm seeing their wagons at all hours at the moment and loads of brand new stuff... So I'm guessing they are busy and paying good £££s

I was getting £25 night out 20+ years ago... I could one hit it and stay at my parent's place

11 Class 1 drivers where I work -three are 75 (all just celebrated 50 years with the business) 1 is 70. Happy to do 3 or 4 nights away every week. Youngest driver is under 40, he's the only one who moans about his workload and he never does nights out!
