Running a wagon as a side line

Threadbare has spoken a lot of sense with regard to the original thread. I am a long retired haulier. To be honest you would probably make as much money for less hassle driving a wagon for someone else; all hauliers are crying out for reliable self employed relief drivers.
On bulk work, after harvest 2012 there was a lack of tonnage needing to be moved. In my area (East Anglia) once the Sugar Beet season ends there is a big surplus of bulkers looking for work. Likewise from about mid May work starts to dry up.
The other issue which is more of a concern now than in the past, is that once you have used up your driving and working hours on your tacho you are not supposed to be doing any other work, you are supposed to be resting or at leisure.
Edit; I just reread your opening post and see you are talking about Low Loader work. We ran a Low Loader as well as Bulkers, Curtainsiders etc, and would have to say that for us the Low Loader was the best paying type of work, in part because we could also fit it in around other jobs. Usually had to run home empty with the Low Loader though

Low loader work is where the idea started. This year we packed up breeding pigs and subsequently had a lot of kit to sell. We sold nearly everything very quickly but it took for ever to get it off farm due to various hauliers being to busy to shift it. It all went on either a flat bed or low loader. Ironically if we had the job of moving our own kit it would have paid for a flat trailer.
