ah something solar thermal systems don't have to worry about :D
Although i don't suppose it's a universal problem, don't remember my parents complaining of such an occurrence
Not sure where you come from ,but my heat exchanger freezes regularly when the outdoor temperature drops below 10 c
I have spoken to all the major players and offered to pay to buy one of their products, provided they will offer a hard and fast guarantee their product will not do this. No one has taken up this offer.
It seems to me the the heat exchangers are very good technology for when you do not really need them.
All heat exchangers will drop into a reverse mode when they freeze, If they do it to often the advantage is lost. My experience is avoid them with a barge poles except my gas boiler has just developed a leak:(

I have a passive house. Spreadsheet says max heat required in the dead of winter is 3kw. We use underfloor heating downstairs with a wee 6kw Daikin ashp, split system. And a 6kw wood burner upstairs. Air handling unit distributes evenly through entire building. Daikin never freezes and we're at 700ft on the side of a hill. My solar heating is the south facing wall of glass. I have a 600m 3 core cable at 830v with 2 25kw transformers. Annual electricity usage for hot water and heating around 3000kwhrs. Max demand from heat pump on dhw is just over 2kw.

What about all those idiots that pay to be a member of a gym and do all the treadmill running?

Like this you mean?

I particularly like the final comment below the video. Might need to view in YouTube to see the comments, but he says one hour of hard pedalling will produce 400W. My memory of other figures I have seen is that you would produce even less.

No, something more like this. ;)

The amount of machines they have in these inner city gyms it beggars belief they can’t use the energy produced rather than just dissipated with friction or whatever.
