My point about him is that these theories are constantly evolving I'm sure he believed in his theories about elephants in 1969 in just the same way he believes in cattle and holistic grazing today only time will prove him right or wrong.

I'd say the condition of his land in Africa compared to the condition of surrounding lands inc National Parks has proved him an able land manager.

As for the effalumps, not sure how hitting him over the head with something he already admits his biggest mistake drives the thing forward. There but for the grace of God go I, how many of us given the position could have made mistakes of similar magnitude.

At 85 he ain’t got much left, I’d say the soil improvement is already proven no denying that . Weather or not it affects the weather ….. open verdict on that bit but from a farming perspective anything that improves the soil is good ! Very good especially if it makes you money on way not costs .

If you want to be challenged re weather, try trees & bacteria influencing it. I think Waltef Jehne among others talk about it.

As someone who farms fragile land that is very easily degraded i'd say from experience less livestock on it is better than more. He makes it seem very simple much more than it really is. If you looked at my farm compared with my neighbours it's much better than theirs but we went down the less animals rather than more strategy maybe long term you can increase grazing numbers but it takes time basically livestock off to allow regeneration . As for the elephants the point of it is not so much the mistake but the fact that at the time he was as convinced of his strategy as he is about his strategy today. If you check out his website there is a video on Mara Beef it all looks very convincing apart from the fact they went under 5 years ago and it's all been converted to posh housing.

I totally “get this” imo hes correct . It’s very interesting.

I don't know really looking at the video. He's 1,000,000% correct about living vegetation creating a cooler and wetter environment. That's what's needed to reverse desertification across the Globe, including in Cities and Towns.

Animals play their part but that can be mimiced by man and machines - in the first place that's probably the best idea to get the acreage up enough to become more self sustaining.

Looks as though the poor soils are lacking organics and clay deposit to retain moisture. I think in China they added a small amount of "something" to soils to help retain moisture - whether this will lead to reversing desertification ? I think they aimed for a very large area on the scale of Europe.

IMHO it needs large lakes and canals - even if they are salty - some areas just don't get any rain. Somehow ground water needs restoring ?

However I have my doubts that if succesful some humans will be greedy and have a war to take the lands.

I don't see how the Atacama desert could be solved in this way nor any similar deserts.

Last summer I bumped into a fella who was clearly from Africa. We got talking, he showed an interest with knowledge about our dairy herd and processing. Turns out he was a recent exile from Zimbabwe. ( white farmer had to run and quickly leave everything behind)
We got talking about Savory as I'd recently heard him speak at Groundswell.
The guy's opinion of him was sincere, he clearly knew him personally. Despite being diametrically opposed to him politically, he openly admitted that Savory had balls to do what he did in Zimbabwe, and on reflection Savory was right and still is right, it was just extremely sad that people (like himself) opposed him so vociferously just as an act of defiance rather than actually listening to him and understanding him
The guy was in his 60s and was in tears, no doubt thinking what had been wasted in Zimbabwe - his home
