wire brush attachment on an angle girder is great then flap wheel again on the angle grinder when you get the worst off just to get a nice smooth surface .

If you have a lot of seems or corners to get in to or just really thick blistered rust a air powered needle gun is a great tool as well then run over the wire wheel angle grinder as much as you can.

it seem to pay to leave it a couple of days after you have the rough off and do it again as the surface underneath seems to flake up after a few days and you can usually get a load more rust off even when you thought you had done a good job the first time over

Those are good

If its a part you can put into a tank, submerse it in 1 part Molasses to 10 parts Water, and let it sit for 3 weeks. Same as putting a penny into coke, it will take it back to bare metal without blowing it to bits. Really does work.

I like these discs but I'd still vote for blasting a spreader. As much as I'd like to sell a few, cleaning a spreader with them sounds like a ballache!

I had a cast iron cylinder head that was jammed full of scale causing poor circulation (hard water and no coolant) I purchased a drum of hydrochloric 36% acid off ebay and poured the 25L drum into a plastic crate. Left it over night and it came out like a new casting. Dunked into water straight away and then into diesel to stop immediate rust. It is locked away in a very well vented area, away from any inquisitive parties. I am always finding new things to de-rust now. Just remember not to put anything alloy into it as it will fizz and disappear! It is much more harsh than citric acid so wear lots of protection !!!
