What Type of product do you mean though? Like araldite?

Araldite will work - but there are various different brands that could do equally as well. 'IF' you do the due diligence and clean and prepare the surface well, then sand / smooth down by using very fine emery, you get a very hard wearing surface and remove all the pitted surfaces.

If one takes shortcuts - the epoxy can also damage seals due to the person leaving high spots.

Thanks all, will need to try some of the above. The salt certainly doesn't help right enough. Rust isn't deep just a lots of small speckles but if left will become a real problem later.

For rods that can't be left off retracted we keep a can of spray grease in the tractor. A quick spray helps keep them right.
