I've ended up with ryobi stuff, the impact driver gets serious abuse and has stood up well, grinder has done a lot of work as well with no issues, rest of the drills, saws and so on have had decent use but not excessive and all without issue.

One thing is they run fine on cheap batteries from Amazon.
That's interesting. Mine is Ryobi too and I didn't realise there were cheaper batteries available. I got 2 rebuilt but it wasn't cheap. What would I be looking for on Amazon? If that isn't a stupid question!

I have a couple of these along with 3 genuine ones and can't tell the difference.

Speaking for experience there is very little in the price between mekita and Milwaukee (when new anyway), but having both the mekita and Milwaukee impact and having a Milwaukee grinder and having used a mekita one the Milwaukee stuff is just night and day! Far more power with the red tools in both cases the new Milwaukee still cost under 120 quid and the power in it is unreal

Unless you can find them cheap cheap, probably your best bit is to look for kits at field days. Individually they will all still go at retail price. The only time there seems to be a bargain to be had is when groups like AIS or Total Tools have kits done for them. Otherwise , ebay or faceache or local clearing sales. I went Milwaukee . Local Agco dealers mechanics run them too. I chose them mainly on range of tools as I was after a grease gun to. Not all have a wide range.

makita kit is the way forward for me however lots of mates also rate milwaukee, just try and get the brushless versions of whatever you get, i found the brushed drills and grinders die for a past time in general farm workshop use, would also say its barely worth buying 2nd hand with the amount of stolen tools on the market these days its not worth the risk and anything that isn't stolen is usually worn out or something wrong with it.

haha
all this talk of stolen tools on the market . . .
I couldn't find any :ROFLMAO:
admittedly ive only been looking at a 100km radius from here, as I couldn't be bothered driving any further on wild goose chases, and not the major metro areas, but since my first post I have only come across 1 person ( free sites, such as Gumtree & Facebook Marketplace ) selling some DeWalt tools, & a handful of very old or just single tools . . .
there doesn't appear to be much of a S / H market at all . . .
Will probably just end up buying new & building up the tools I want

thanks

Of course more than half the price of a cordless tool is the battery. I have bought "genuine used DeWalt batteries" off ebay only to find that they never seem to last as long as my used batteries.

Impact wrench and actually ....Brand new.... you would be surprised at the Clarke 24v (nicad) one at just over 40 quid. From machine mart.. Comes with 2 batteries and charger in that price.... I've got one, I admit not intensively used but useful when it is and has pretty good power , certainly speeds things up.

Looked at machine mart and can't find a Clarke one at that price unfortunately

If not from trusted seller they will be stolen I bet, I wouldn’t buy second hand tools unless I know the seller as so many get stolen they almost garunteed to be knocked off but must be some right twits out their that buys knocked off gear

I don’t think Metabo has been mentioned yet on this? No one using it? I have a range of metabo cordless kit here and I think it’s great.

I've never seen any trades folks use them or hitachi .
All though metabo are a good brand ,they don't have the tool range like makita and dewault
They seem to have increased the cordless range a fair bit in recent years. All manor of cordless drills, impactors, saws, and others on their website now.
It would be popular enough gear amongst trade men over this side of the pond. It would certainly hold a fair enough share of the market amongst the rest
