Getting quotes for a building and one quote says it's made with S355J0 grade steel, is this a higher grade steel than "normal"(whatever grade normal is)?
It will all be BS 5502 class 2 anyhow and I guess they would not have put S355J0 unless it was better.

S355J0 is fairly normal for beams etc.

The S stands for structural, the 355 is the tensile strength and the J0 means that its hardness test has been done at 0° temperature.

Either side of J0 you have grades JR(20°) and J2 (-20°).

Flats and angle are most commonly S275JR, hollow sections are usually either S235JRH for general use or S355J2H for structural use. The H on these grades simply means its a hollow section.

summed up perfectly....for what its worth, I'd be surprised if whoever you choose doesn't use S355JO for the sections as its the common supply now......hopefully you wont need J2 in Norfolk?
