You are staying in one of the more affluent areas of France. Cheaper in the sticks. Baguette is ,35 centimes in town and a euro from the depot de pain
I'm always surprised by the number of people who buy fuel on the motorways both in the uk and France, it only takes a few minutes to find a cheaper place in any town.
What is the average wage in France ?
Also just seen on the telly the naughty swiss are bringing their rubbish over the border and dumping it in the Frence bins as they get charged a lot at home.
The French news is certainly going overboard trying to create panic buying and hysteria over corona, nearly as bad as uk telly

The SMIC is e 1560 a month. Minimum wage for salaried worker. Social charges and any tax still to be deducted from that.
Primary school teacher, newly qualified , will take home about e 9.500 a year.

A place called st gervais les bains, its 15 miles from chamonix and about 4 from where the guy from Singapore stayed who brought the Corona virus to Brighton, dont think I've caught it yet though.
It's been a real eye opener staying for an extended time in France on how it is losing its identity compared to years ago, most of the telly is dubbed UK or US imports or their version of uk/US reality sh!t, far more imported cars these days too. They aren't a happy bunch at the moment that's for sure, my spoken French is not fluent but I can read papers without trouble
Yep, I've French friends who mourn the passing of their national identity, La France profonde… I still see aspects of it and, perhaps / probably because I'm a Brit, the 'Frenchness' still seems very apparent to me. I guess it's the same here, bits of what detractors would call 'Little' England / Wales Britain (UK) that seem diminished to me, but to others still seem very British. Perhaps we should find that reassuring...

Not sure how much cheddar France buys, I've never seen any English cheese in all the years I've been coming, it's a good job food in the UK doesn't cost as much as it does here the country would riot, it's even worse if you buy it in the resorts rather than drive to the nearest big town where it's a lot cheaper

I hate to admit it but I’ve bought English cheese here (well my wife has) every week for the last 7 years. Trip to the opticians when you return home maybe?

Yep no deal is an easy deal, wto
Better to come home empty than poor
No deal is not a deal and coming home empty is coming home poor with the potential to be poorer.if you come home poorer after a deal then the negotiators have let you down.

That's good to here but in the three supermarkets we have used in the last 7 wks not seen any despite looking the local tomme is not bad and they push it a lot but considering the number of brits that ski in the area you would have thought they would stock it
