Sad Pictures of Hay

Turn it once it's dry on top, the more you turn it the quicker it will dry , so probably twice a day, it's ready to bale when it's totally dry

When you say totally dry, just how dry are you refering to when going by hand, because there is some fresh green in the cut:

To test it, I was told to take a bit of hay and twist it into a rope. If it snaps within 4 twists it's ready

Thank you. I actually saw that whilst researching on you tube, but wasn't sure how accurate it would be, and having never done this before, thought I'd ask.

Well done

Thank you, just waiting for my tester to arrive now to let me learn a bit more about it, how it chanfes (heat, moisture etc).

Also, glad I managed this - as it's been pi $$ing down all night and still us now, so the other paddock is probably going to be ruined.

Did your baler go ok? How many bales did you do ?

Yes, baler went well thank you, the only concern I need to understand more about controlling is why some bales had a slightly looser string, which resulted in bent bales (if that makes sense). The majority were as intended, just a few went wonky.
Tried adjusting the baler springs, but still had some. Need to read the manual :)

We baled about 250 bales in all.

Aren't banana bales due to how the crop is going into the chamber. The more fuller you keep the baler the more consistent the bales are. Obviously without over loading and popping a shear bolt!

That can just be uneven rows. Thick bit then a thin bit. Balers like a nice even swath.

To get good consistent bales you need a nice even feed and a full pick reel, difficult to achieve at ends of rows, corners etc, you will probably get on better going a little faster when you get more practice

Thanks for the insight, looking back - after I had rowed it all up and left to air for a few hours prior to baling, the wind had blown a few areas over in places.
