Same Iron

I'm currently looking at a Same Iron 200 to replace my NH 8770, which i have recently sold.

Does anyone have any experience of these tractors, and do they have any inherent problems? It's a 2005 model.

Any input would be gratefully received.

Fairly sure it will be mechanically near identical to a Deutz of the same age and power.

A Same Iron 200 has a Same 9 speed powershift and a Same front axle agrotron cab and 7.1 litre 1013 deutz engine
I had a look at one in south Yorkshire recently

I didn't think they built that combination as late as the Iron series. :scratchhead: There is a Deutz locally of 200hp with that combination. The transmission has been fine but the engine a nightmare. Since there is a Deutz as you describe there is almost certainly a Same version, its just that I never thought it would be an 'Iron' with the square front and multiple stacked front lights with Deutz cab.

Is that not the same engine as a 820 fendt?

Yes, i think that's right. Mainly a Same with a Deutz engine. Just wondering whether people found them generally reliable.

The transmissions are surprisingly reliable. Engines less so. Not a particularly pleasant transmission to drive though, because they never did sort the clutch pedal modulation out and they attempted to automate the 9th/10th change with not much finesse. This thing must have taken over from the Rubin, which was a relative sales flop but used essentially the same transaxle but with a water-cooled SLH engine.

Main issue with these things is repairs should they go wrong. The current staff at SDF weren't around when these were new and there is little knowledge at the UK level. Things like the computers will be difficult to find and programs to load onto the computers that are relevant to specific models, almost impossible. Such a need should not arise, but I'm afraid it does from time to time and that is when the men-brands are sorted from the boy-brands.

This is a good engine normally, but anything can give trouble, Deutz engines are normally good but expensive to repair. Same still make this gearbox but it has a power shuttle and 12 speeds and fitted to the Same Audax .

It will disappoint you if coming from an 8770.
Never a tractor I liked for tillage work.
More suited to trailer/road work but the lack of 50km/hr left it down here though.

Have 4 Irons where I used to work and although none of them do massive hours reliability is general good as is fuel consumption.

Not to my liking but try it and see,you may love it

I think it is very similar to the Rubin. Of which I once owned a Rubin 180. If it has the ZF transmission with forward reverse shuttle it should be a good tractor. The Rubin was way ahead of its time and essentially a brilliant tractor but not quite! Mine was exported.

I bought a Silver 130 in 2000, it appeared underpowered until they discovered the wrong injectors had been fitted. Not much problem with it until 4000 hours when it shoved a conrod through the block.

Ifs its like the rubin, shell well, is it 16 speed powershift? Not too sure it could be 18?! We had a demo on a 150 years ago, which was a flyer

I think it's essentially a Rubin with a Deutz engine. The gearbox is an 18 speed powershift, although i think it's really a 9 + 9. So maybe need to clutch between 9th and 10th. But as the Duck says, it may have an attempt at modulation, but i've yet to confirm that.
