Same Silver 100.4 fast-shift (?) not working

Hi all,
I have a Same Silver 100.4 and the lowest gear on the fast shift (?) has stopped working.
The middle and highest on fast shift seams ok. But when I try lowest nothing happens - just changing the light indicator.

Anybody know why and how to fix?

Regards
Jon

The word you're looking for is power shift, or Agroshift as Same call it.

When you put it in low, does the tractor still drive? But it's stuck in medium range? Is it something that's just happened or has it been doing it for a while?

Electronically, it's a fairy simple system. You need to get underneath, find the HML valve block and check the power & earth to the low range solenoid when you command low range. Check the condition of the plugs, they might need cleaning or replacing. You might find that when you play around with these plugs, the problem magically fixes itself?

If it's the same as my 130, the HML valve block will be on the RH side of the transmission, it's got pipes going into it and three plugs. The wiring harness on my 130 goes up to a round plug in the RH rear corner of the cab floor.

Ah. Thanks. Agroshift!

It's stuck in medium range. It has been doing this for å couple of weeks. First it started to engage and go back to medium range for for some days.
I'll have å look and hopefully locate the HML valve block.

By the way - do you know where to get a "repair-handbook"? I bought one online, but it's just a copy to pdf in low quality - the images are useless.

Thanks.

I really struggled to get good quality workshop manuals for my Same tractors, I recently found out you can buy & download them direct from the SDF store. They're not too badly priced either.

Half way down, there's a workshop manual for the Silver 80, 90, 100.4 & 100.6, I assume it's in English.

I'm sure they're just downloadable PDFs and you can register an address from any country.

I wonder if the local dealer would be able to supply them?

If it’s a manual shuttle it will only have two solenoids between the rear axle and fuel tank by the handbrake cable. Medium is spring operated and will revert to medium if it looses oil pressure. If it’s powershuttle it will have three solenoids though. Solenoids can get stuck open or closed though.

I would actually start with the wiring from the switch on gear lever and work down from there

I think I found the wires and plugs. I tried to disconnect and reconnect one of them, and then it shifted. It seamed ok at the beginning, but after some shifts from lower to medium it startet to not engage properly (don't know the correct word...).

You'll need to check power & earth to the HML solenoids when you switch between high, medium and low. If these are ok then check the solenoids and valves are working properly - it's not uncommon for the solenoids to fail, you may be able to swap them around to see if the fault changes?

Did you find a manual in the end?

Thanks.
I did get a manual from SDF. Appreciate your tips.

I'll check the power and earth first. I guess the lamps in the panel indicating HML lights as usual.
And also when I press the button for L the lights for Service often lights up for some seconds.

Uh oh. When did you last change your fluid and filters? I wonder if you've got a mechanical problem going on in the HML unit. There should be test ports somewhere that you can hook a pressure gauge up to, it might shed some light on what's possibly going on.

Hydr.oil and filters changed in april. And filters replaced again in august - hydraulic pumps was replaced then.
The Service-lamp did light up sometimes when shifting to L before that, but the Agroshift worked fine.

The low pressure light will flash momentarily with every shift as it will loose a bit of the 18 bar pressure disengaging one clutch pack and pressurising against the spring to let Medium clutch drive.
Swap the plugs on the two coils to see if you can move the problem. It will them downshift when you upshift and vice versa
