Sand Bag Walls

I have seen a wonderful looking headwall picture on facebook made from sandbags, how long would it last? I just thought it looked so good, I quite fancy trying something like that here, but son wonders how long they would last (or put it another way, he thinks it is a bad idea).

Depends what the bags are made of, the natural hessian stuff rots pretty quickly.

Polyethylene bags would last the longest, a couple of years, but don’t look very appealing.

would you fill them with a sand/cement dry mix then?

I understand that's the correct procedure. I've never done it but I've seen plenty of them where the hessian has rotted away leaving what looked like a strong head wall.

Rot proof sandbags. The bags are filled with ST2 concrete and then pinned in place.
