Sandringham estate

Apparently Charles is getting his hands on the running of this and plans to take it back in hand as a giant organic farm? Anybody know the truth of this? If so it rather makes a mockery of helping smaller tenant farmers/family farmers which he professes to admire and like and indeed does good work for through his Princes Countryside fund. Surely he should be creating more let land? Perhaps my information is wrong though. I can't actually easily find out how much of the sandringham estate is currently tenanted.

There own in hand land going organic ,in stages ,around 6000 acre ,and having grass and sheep in the rotation , will try and find out a few more details
Thanks. So most of that land is in hand already? and its not quite the eviction of tenants at the first opportunity as I had been led to believe. Would still be nice if he was to let some of that 6000 acres out......

We heard there was a bust up between Phil and Charles that is why the conversion was not earlier. The D of E is pretty clued up on farming and science and favours conv farming against organic .This came fro a former advisor to the estate

One of the most interesting trips I've had was a Game Conservancy visit to Sandringham. I turned up thinking it would be just a talk from one of their minor employees in a conference centre. When we got there and whole fleet of green Land Rovers turned up and we were given a tour round the estate by the keepers. I happened to sit in with the head keeper which was really interesting. An incredible amount of wild grey partridge -- will never forget going round what seemed like a 40ac field and seeing covey after covey in the same field. They have their own farming operation just to drill all the stewardship areas! From memory at the time a portion of the estate was organic and the rest was convention. Memory a bit hazy but I thought they were comparing the two systems against each other.

Ah, David Clarke, knew him well when he was a keeper in Cornwall. Top bloke who really understands wild bird shoots and learnt so much from his time at Raby.

There are still a number of tenant farmers on the estate, and they farm in the usual manner. If my memory serves me correctly a list of tenants is in the main estate office next to the list of gamekeepers.
Roughly what's the average size of farms on the estate?
