Saturdays Look Ahead - A wet July?

Hi,

With such warm sea temperature around the UK I'm starting to be a little concerned that July could turn quite wet. Of course, I could be wrong, but things are starting to fall into place. This isn't a forecast yet, just some ideas.

More in today's Look Ahead at http://www.weatherweb.net

Keep the sun shining!

+4 . Long range forecasts are really to taken with a pinch of salt.

BBC weekly forecasts seem to pretty much spot on for the last few months

Hee hee! I always say long range is a mugs game, but it's where the ficus on research is at right now.

It's important to monitor the changes in the guidance as this us where the value is. All, not just farmers, need educating in how to use the long ranges to best advantage (and that's not to be condescending). A different approach is required.

Used sensibly I think you guys can really benefit from long range guidance. First up though, please, please, please, please don't believe the utter nonsense in the tabloids (Express being the most notable in this).

No long range would ever predict rain three weeks next Tuesday afternoon, or stuff like wettest this or coldest that on record, but what they can do us point to changes in patterns and may benefit planning the weeks and months ahead.

Basically, long ranges should be better than having nothing at all.

Hope that explains it?

That's just it tho,if it is completely wrong, which a lot have been recently,it is worse than having no long range forecast at all.So all arable farmers should forget about harvest in July and go on holiday instead?Dont think so.

The later half of July will be blistering hot, so I can travel from somerset, to county Durham, to help my friend harvest is 200 acres of winter barley, how do I know this!, sea weed and acorns, and an itchy right leg !!! Yes precisely that's how accurate this other nonsense is, it is what it is we're British for Christ's sake.
