Scab on teats

Hi, have 3 cows/hiefers with scabs on teat, caused 1 cow to take mastitis I’m worried it’s going to spread. I don’t believe it’s chemical related ie any issues with the parlour wash. Dairyman thought it was black scab I think it’s digital. It has the smell of digital dermatitis. Anyone seen this? Any replies greatly appreciated

Ischaemic teat necrosis. Unfortunately cause isn’t fully understood (but Digi bacteria may play a part as well as liner comfort) and no fully successful treatment. Keep it moisturised with udder salve, keep digi under control, I’ve heard of some success with injectable penicillin, perhaps rethink parlour settings and liners.

That was me smoking, figured it a nice gesture to get a selfie of me and the cow to send to my vet. @epfarms thanks for your reply, we changed the liners last week. Could that have something to do with it? Dairyman is keeping them moisturised etc. I put a nose spike on one tonight to stop her licking her affected quarter

If you can’t slap a milker on, light a new one and slap the next one on without getting behind, you ain’t no dairy farmer. !

Bovine herpes Mamilitis. Had a German heifer calve with it, managed to get her right but took about 10 weeks. Ended up putting a teat plug in, cream on teat and a couple of multiject tubes along the way. At its worst there was no chance of putting cluster on affected teat it just bled but persevered and she came right.

I jagged that hiefer with pharmacin that afternoon, il maybe take a picture of it later, drastic improvement as if it has killed the bacteria and looks like it’s a healing scab. Could herpes come from the same family of infection as dermatitis?
