Scab

I was wondering about that earlier. Are shedding sheep cheaper, as they obviously take a lot less out?
This is were people go wrong, people think that the water is the issue when dipping the fact is the chemical strips out quicker than the water depletes, although sheep with longer wool will draw more water out the chemical strips out at the same rate no matter the length of the wool

That's what I was wondering. I know, from when we used to dip, we replenished the chemical after so many sheep, not just as the water went down.

The latest SA guidelines says dip!

I can’t find the relevant document online but @The sheep dipper man might know where it was. I had an email a few weeks ago from the SA I’m sure it was saying if you have scab don’t mess around and just dip - phoning for a derogation or vet to authorise it ideally. Animals that have been dipped can’t be sold as organic, so the most convenient time for me to dip is September - Christmas and to use the Rappa solely on store lambs if they have scab, thanks to a bad neighbour I may well be going for a derogation to dip, I’m sure some of the other Organic bodies are more realistic to the whole issue.
Organic rules i belive state that sheep with organic status can be dipped as it is a welfare issue, however withdrawal periods have to be doubled.

Just found this, back in the days when lambs were 130p/kg, wheat was £100/t and in a year called 1985.

Why should I dip mine? We are double fenced due to everything being mv accredited and I don’t buy stock in, or very rarely and not from a market sale if at all possible.
If I were to dip my sheep in the Autumn, it would make no difference if the biggest risk here is birds carrying wool from a neighbour that takes in tack sheep.

If I get scab here, I will likely dip, but I have no intention of buggering up my health, not to mention adding cost, by dipping routinely, unless it becomes a legal requirement for everyone to do so.

I can quite see the point of dipping everything onto the farm these days though, where you buy in replacements (especially from markets) or store lambs from all over.

This is the core of the problem really. The way the UK sheep industry is structured is a biosecurity nightmare.

Noticed this time thst replenishment rates for Golden Fleece have changed. 180ml every top up instead of x ml of dip to x litres of water
Its 180 ml of concentrate dip after the passage of 36 sheep if the dip tank is 500gal or less or 480 ml of concentrate dip after the passage of 96 sheep if the dip tank is over 500gal and topped up to its original water level. Follow these guides and there wont be a problem

So that means in simple terms 480 plus a kn0bfull for every 100 :D:ROFLMAO:
