Scab

Nasty things scab mites. Hope there's some info in the above, but they have PDFs to download in much more detail about quarantining against scab, etc.

One farming friend of my dad's didn't have a number to buy dip when the regs changed so dipped with jeyes fluid for about ten years. Never saw scab or lice again but they changed the formula since and it's not the same

Spray the trailler with anything that stinks wont help loading, for awhile after...else something like a spray diesal or creosote might work

We exported a bunch of sheep a few years ago, while Blue Tongue was about. To comply with the rules we had to use ‘DEFRA approved products’ to both disinfect the haulier’s trailer (I used Virkon) and kill any potential midges with an insecticide. I bought a drum of Perbio Choc RTU, which would likely kill any scab mites

In the event, the Dutch haulier said he had already disinfected the trailer (a converted IW, with air con & drinkers). I asked him if he was going to use my insecticide, as my vet had to sign off as having observed him doing it. He shrugged his shoulders and grabbed a can of fly spray from the cab of his van, which he sprayed through the side vents for a couple of seconds. I’ve no idea if it would have been effective, but it ticked a box.

Dip is the best,no doubt, but I don't think the 17 day days is enough. Our common has compulsory two months clearance to try and iradicate it and they still pick it up out there
yes fair comment they are tough little beggars the eggs can survive longer than that as well but surely a sheep trailer thoroughly cleaned all bits removed using detergent. disinfect. etc would different thing after a 17 days break than the Common would be i should think.

hate scab , anyone found with scab at mart ought to have their movement licences revoked for couple months not unlike the TB standstill , , to many dealers (often inexperienced youngsters) trading all sorts this time of year , could do the same with codd as well if you like
on the op i would disinfect and spray op dip as well after .

Bloody difficult things to get rid of. I dipped mine in June put them on clean aftermath and didn't touch them for 3 weeks minimum. One or 2 are starting to itch again. We dipped twice last year and i thought that had done the trick.

I followed the manufacturer guidelines as always. I believe it was 60ml every 12 sheep (applied as 180ml - 200ml every 35 - 40). Dipped for at least 1 minute (usually 1.5 mins) and dunked a minimum of twice
