What is crack with dividing up into shearlings and remainder ?
To me they are a one flock what am I missing 🤔?
No idea I don’t get it either but I lamb my ewe lambs separately but once they’ve lambed they join the ewe flocks….

We lamb our ewe lambs and they stay in that management group until lambing the following year as gimmers let’s me be a little kinder to them, possibly should keep them away from mature ewes until weaning as gimmers but don’t , a lot of these sheep will have worked very hard for me need to give them a little chance

First flock came in at 185%, which is OK. Some of the 2tooths have come up from the second flock after rearing good singles as hoggs, and there are some old ewes with excellent track records scanned singles, which just want a ewe lamb from by the present best ram.

Presumably they just happened to be running as a separate mob on scanning day?

I go through all mine recording scan data against their EID, then I can analyse performance on ages, breeds, tupping groups, dry shearlings vs lambed, etc (if I feel the urge).

Some will always quote their scan results after they've taken the barreners out, so I suppose taking the shearlings out could be the next step on pub figures? I just quote the figures from my twin bearing ewes and be done with it. (y)

id be happy with that 'most' of them twins where you wanna be really tripplets are a pain if you have to many.

I'm coming round to thinking I'd sooner see higher scanning %age. In an outdoor lambing flock a triplet can have one lifted to become a twin, but it's a challenge to foster on to a single from a ewe with strong maternal instincts ime. I'd sooner have extra triplets, at the expense of singles, to get the maximum number rearing two. With lamb prices where they are, the triplets certainly pay for rearing artificially. I've not sold a cade below ÂŁ100 this year, and they've cost around ÂŁ50 in rearing.
