Scanning 2021

For those of you using an Agrident reader to record scanning results, using either our free AgriDataTransfer software or our full management package Select Sheepware, we've modified the pregnancy scanning recording screen to make it faster. We were prompting for comment and also displaying the total ewes scanned so far every time - we've cut this out and that has resulted in 3 less presses of the button on the reader per ewe being recorded. Speed is critical when using a reader. We also now have multiple option when recording scanning , so if you have the sheep separated according to the scan - singles in one group, twins in another, then you can choose multiple on the reader, select 1 and go beep beep beep scanning the ewes with singles as fast as you wish. Then you change to twins and scan the ewes as quick as you can go from one to the next.

If they are young sheep that have never been tupped, there could well be a non-breeder or two anyway, especially if you, like a lot, like to 'give them another chance'. I have two such barenners in my pedigree flock, having given them another chance as empty shearlings last year.

I always find proportionally more empties in terminal sire crosses for some reason too.

As above, I wouldn't worry about it too much, especially if you've already ruled out any trace element deficiencies as found from those bloods. The only thing that might be worth doing, is screening the empties for Enzo/Toxo if they're not vaccinated, but I'd only do that on a small number if it were part of a free scheme with the vets, paid for by the vaccine company. Might be worth enquiring?
Alls vaccinated for toxo and enzo this year, empty ewes were 1 shearling that lambed as a ewe lamb and others all had lambed for 3 or 4 years previous

Thanks, wouldnt call 1000ft a low level farm exactly tho!
Been snow covered last 3 days and looking across your side and up the east fellside no snow. . Strange that!
No we seem to have escaped the worst of the snow, just a light covering on the top, often the way when it comes from the west, we suffer more when its from the east, you'll probably get it from both sides. Who does your scanning, is it PC?

View attachment 1008359scanned 1049 mainly swaledale ewes , as seems to be the trend a little bit lighter this year , averaged up at 205% so happy enough really.
Only 15 fours, not 16, as one had 5 in it but there isnt a column for that!
Just have to keep them alive now!
@AftonShepherd well that blows my last comment out the water and looks like I might have to find a roulette table.

I hope you keep regularly posting @Dachie seems like you have humour, if you venture into the price tracker thread, don’t read from the start. Have you read the “how to move a dead horse” thread yet? 👍🏻
Humour is a big requirement farming in this area. Especially when southerners are over keen to share pictures of grassy fields in the middle of winter!

Yes, happy enough really, just a few good ewes geld that i could have done without, if theyd been breaking everry cycle then fair enough but one or 2 yellow rudded ones geld.
Will likely have to keep trying!
Weather is knackered with us. Turned clashy and generally hard on stock. Ewes on silage a bit of beet and some liquid with protein at the moment. We will ramp up the beet and cake them sooner than later the way things are going.

Exactly the same here....i thought ewes werre looking tremendous up till Christmas then they seem to have taken a real hammering since then, 1st load of cake came today, i was just gonna start caking the threes but might end up caking the lot, bit sooner than i wanted to really but cant do much about that.
Theyre eating round bales like theyre going out of fashion!

I had 300 mid march lambing ewes that where eating 2 bales of silage a day, I bought them in on new years day, 3 bales now last 2 days, the wet was making them bloody hungry.
