What about including an insecticide ? I am trying to move away from any spring applied but my agronomist insists the risk is too great to miss it out considering the high crop value.
I haven't seen enough beetle to justify it..and most growers won't want to

There are reports of large numbers of seed weevils in the South, I’ve only found a handful so won’t be using an insecticide

Can’t remember the last time I did, maybe 13 years ago ?

I’ve been trying to stop using insecticides over the last 10 years, but in the last couple, mealy aphids have been a significant problem in our rape. This is what some looks like at the moment…

For which insect is the insecticide being recommended? Pollen beetle are beneficial once the crop has started flowering. If you see a lot of seed weevil on the sprayer when you are spraying then an insecticide could be justified. Mealy aphids rarely go much further than the headlands.
