The pro-independence SNP have failed to gain a majority of the popular vote, being nigh on a quarter of a million votes short of pro-union parties (+ Ms Sturgeon has herself stated that she doesn't expect all who voted for the SNP yesterday to support independence anyway!).

Since the SNP claim to support PR and the directly representative democracy it means, they haven't - by their own measure and standards - got a mandate for a second referendum. Have they?

(Cue SNPers ignoring their own party policies while criticising Conservatives for misleading the public... :))

The Conservative party will do what it takes to stay in power. When the time comes they will cut Scotland loose. I can certainly see Scottish MPs loosing the right to vote on “English only” issues.

The talk inside the Conservative Party is of very large-scale investment going into Scotland, of two types:

1) Infrastructural to facilitate much better communications between Scotland-England and Scotland-NI;

2) UK public sector jobs - clearly dependent on being part of the Union, easily removed if Scotland goes.

This is moral as well as pragmatic thinking, it makes both tactical and strategic sense too. Pump XX billions in to Scotland, increase the links from it to the rest of the UK, employ lots of people in UK reliant jobs and, if the SNP get a majority of the popular vote and still want a referendum after the next Scottish elections, let them have it.

The snp are by far the loudest in Scotland, some folks would be surprised at the polling station to learn there were other options, that's one place the others need to start..

If there is one thing people agreed on about the EU referendum, is the lack of a clear plan of action and expected result for the winning option.
How could this be possible for Scot-indy-2?
Until a deal is finalised with the EU, nobody knows what remaining part of the UK would be like and then Scotland would have to try and negotiate a deal with the EU to know what independence would be like.
Pushing for another referendum now is nothing but a political stunt.
The trouble with Holyrood is, there isn't really any opposition to highlight the deficiencies of the SNP and they merely pass any blame onto Westminster. I think perhaps Proportional representation should be trialed........

For Scotland being such a minnow, backwater part of the UK where nothing happens and we can't support ourselves and live cap in hand for the South to fund our entire existence... there's a lot more posts about us from outside, than from us about the outside.

It clearly annoys you, and others, that we (in Election terms) vote alternatively to what is dictated to us. If it didn't, these threads wouldn't even exist.

It says more about those 'down South' who feel they need to comment, than it does about us.
