Scythe recommendation sought

Now I have nearly half an acre of non-fancy grass ie quite a lot of natural grasses , some coarse , to look after , I am considering getting a scythe to keep on top of the grass around my newly planted apple trees. The previous owner kindly left his ride on mower , but there are steep banks , tumbling down quite a depth to the burn round the property , and after trying it out with a friend I think it's too bloody dangerous with no one around. Some of the grass will be better left to grow and seed if it likes but other parts need kept in check at least a couple of times a year.

Yes , I have a cordless strimmer , which is fine for the edges near the kerbstones , and for the moderately slopy bits , but you only get a wee bit done for each charge of the battery and it's noisy , shakey and not that light to handle.

I used to use a scythe on the farm for docks and thistles , but the local ag merchants ( where the ride on and strimmer came from ) don't even stock a scythe ! Longer term I mean to try some ducks and maybe some geese , but there will always be some tidying up to do.

On line you can spend up to £150 for an Austrian job - is this worth it? Guy in Dorset is offering them , but makes it out to be all complicated ! I do want something that is sound and will last , and is comfortable to use.
