Your own well trained eyes and spidy senses!
Spot the clues; the backgrounds that don’t quite fit or are all different. The ones that simply look out of place or like another country! The bits that look airbrushed or touched up or copy/pasted, difference in colour and sharpness.
Maybe do some reverse image searches. Watermarks are a dead give away but they can be cropped out of shot.

It will tell you where else the image has been used.

It may tell you but only if it has been indexed before.
Tinyeye is also useful for searching and you can install their browser extension so you can search by just right clicking on an image.
