Isnt the main problem with mixed covers ( like the stewardship mix ) that you cant control the weeds especially if you need to use the same locations for the strips? Like the sound of Trigger Happy's suggestion if you can use stomp and shield.

The main problem is that they are full of too many species and are often rare which means they are expensive.

At least with a single species you can keep the area in some kind of weed management, which you will appreciate if you ever take them out and crop them again.

like many others I'm sure ..the maize and artichoke cover crops sown for our commercial shoot have taken a battering with this recent weather and are now looking pretty sorry for themselves and not holding much at all with the inevitable negative effect that's having on the bag .. we're keen to expand the business for next year but to do so we need to be able to hold the birds better after christmas ...Has any one got any suggestions for something to either replace maize or as an addition that will hold birds through until late January so we can sell some more days with confidence ? nothing worse than selling a day then struggling to make up the numbers
TIA
Hi Pedders, have you still got some covers seed for this summer? If so can I get a price list. Cheers

I don't think @Pedders is trading anymore as we had an order on Farm Marketplace for him last week and he said he was no longer supplying. I chased and chased and had no response other than that from him. Shame as they were great value products.

Agrii have shut down GB Seeds as well.

Where about are you based?
As earlier in the thread try Church's http://www.churchofbures.co.uk/products/greening-efas

I have no connection with the company other than they are local to us, we have grown seed for them and they are a good company to deal with.:D(y)
I'm based in Buckinghamshire. It will be my first time using cover crops. I'm putting them in after winter barley before spring oats.
