Seat upgrade MF575

Hi guys,

What is the "best" seat you could fit in a 575 or 590 etc etc. I guess that the high floor under the seat rules out a lot of the air types unless you had legs about five feet long, or perhaps there are versions with more compact undercarriages?

Yes modern snazzy seat might not be period-correct, but neither are my joints and my back, which are both of a person twice my bloomin age LOL

Cheers folks

Back in the day (1982) this was the Bostrom Grammer seat they talked of upgrading the 500 series to in their Powerpart catalogue.....

The Grammer range is still around as the DS85 range, just a google search away.

The critical dimensions really are height from cab floor pedestal to the seat base and some ball-park dimensions for the 4 bolt holes to hold it down - I can't remember if its captivated nuts on the 500 series holding the seat down, but i bet you will know

Ended up went with a knockoff of the Grammer d85 type seat

Lovely jubbly

I made a new floor so that the seat mounts in a recess 3 inches lower. That way I can let the suspension have the full length of travel without ending up being five miles away from the bloomin pedals hehehe.

Still loads of room below the seat pan for hoses etc plus the new one is easier to get out of the cab because it fits together in bitesize chunks.....no more trying to manhandle the floor and seat complete out through the back window hehehe

How do you like the seat ? Im thinking of putting one in my 6640 as i have a rear sprung grammer super comfort same as the above pictures, and feel like im falling forward out of it all the time. Ive not seen the knockoff ones in the flesh but at £208 +vat delivered they do seem very good value.

If the suspension unit on the seat has gone and the seat itself is OK try KDR seating, I bought a seat suspension unit for a Grammer DS85 for my Ford 6640.

Sorry to derail, we have a case 5140 with an air seat. The mechanics of it are fine but it needs "reupholstering" and new armrests is this cost effective or are you better off just buying a new seat.

I'm struggling to source replacement cushions for the grammar seat in my 5140, there's some on eBay but the shipping from the us makes them fairly expensive. Any pointers much appreciated.

Do you know what model of seat it is? There are cushions for a DS85 on ebay.
Or KDR seating have them

Great recommendation @Boohoo, Kdr seating were fantastic. Got new seat cushions and armrests for a quarter the price of a new seat from case, which wasn't even a grammar. Cushions were pretty firm to start with but mellowing nicely now. Thanks
