Second-hand machinery prices, and the mystery....

Forgive me if I'm going over old ground. I'm toying with the idea of another tractor - with a loader. I like Ford New Holland machines. Why, oh why do the dealers mostly not put prices on their stock ? It is such a waste of my time having to phone these people to get a price for anything. I can't be arsed with every purchase being a 'deal'. I can see how much a car costs. Or a house. Why not a tractor ?

Because the people that sold them their stock know how much they got for it and don't want to see it advertised for twice as much the next day?

This is the story I've heard from dealers which is ballcocks.

I think the truth is more to do with seeing how many calls they get so they can choose to quote top dollar or something more competitive.

Only thing worse than POA is make me an offer.

Usually goes like this
Make me an offer I've no idea what it's worth
No I'd prefer you to just give me a price
No really I don't know what it's worth
Ok then £500
Oh I was hoping for nearer £1000
😡😡😡😡😡😡

If you don't know what it's worth how will you know wether to accept the offer or not ffs

Because dealer who use POA should be shot at Dawn.
And 90% of the time you'll ring up only to find the price is too much anyway.
Has anyone actually rang a POA and been surprised how cheap it was?
Yes several times. My theory is that alot of people detest asking for the price so don't bother. By the way, I never ever call, I hate that. I just send them an email, most of the time I get an email back within a day at most.
I hate POA too but if it is to my advance I'll use it.

another one is
“Not really looking to sell my John Deere 6910 but what’s it worth? If the right offer comes along I may be tempted”

*just using said model for example purposes 🤣

it's called 'the art of dealing', they all have a system, to get an idea of what farmers will pay,
high price, see how many/few enquire
poa how many people do ask
that gives them a clue of demand.
They buy at the lowest price they can get away with, either straight deal, or px, and sell for as much as possible, with the least/none warranty they can.
with a px, or straight buy, they have to take into account, what the seller hasn't said, as well, and the seller is going to say the least he can.
And many of us think they are rogues, out to rip us off !!!

On a bit of a tangent, how straight and trustworthy do we think bidding online is?
Bearing in mind the auctioneers software has access to your top bid amount, I mean an unscrupulous firm could potentially safely take you to within one bid of your max.....
Is it possible or likely, and how do people act to avoid the potential issue.

Thank you all, very much. I'm still waiting for a reply to an email I sent first thing this morning. The basic 'how much ?'. Watch and wait, watch and wait - as they say on the sniper range...

If it’s a price I’m happy to pay so be it. Thats what max bid is all about isn’t it. No difference to bouncing bids off the crowd to get up to or near the reserve with only one serious bidder.
