Second spring barley into barley volunteers

Destroy the volunteers ASAP to reduce the disease carry over and consider treating any farm saved seed to reduce the disease burden. I've grown second spring barley crops to change cropping rotation and break up block cropping. There's always more disease and the yield is a bit less but it's always manageable and certainly reduces grass weeds too.
This is the reason i have switched to growing catch crops instead of EFA cover crops, as it allows me to remove the cover from mid October if required (this year being a good example!!). I presume OP is growing non efa cover crop.

You won't get the same degree of sadness from decaying seedlings as you do from decaying straw etc. Roundup now or even soon will take ages to work.

I'm looking at a good carpet of winter barley volunteers going on with spring barley or oats. They will get sprayed off next dry spell. Mainly as they are currently full of aphid which I'd like to crawl or fly off to elsewhere before I put a cereal in.

Sprayed off it all, also got some pre spring wheat which will be sprayed tomorrow.
Good points on seed dressing for the second spring barley. We have grown it before it yielded a little less but overall was okay. Slightly more disease.
